University of Hawai’i – West O’ahu

The University of Hawaiʻi - West Oʻahu (UHWO), is one of ten branches of the University of Hawaiʻi system and is a public, co-ed, state university. After 35 years without a permanent campus, approval was granted in 2010 to construct the new UHWO campus. Phase 1 of the campus included the Library, courtyard, study and meeting places, and initial classroom buildings. These were completed in July 2012. Future phases and expansions to the UH West Oahu campus will include student housing, additional study and classroom halls, and other developments in the East Kapolei area.

PLANNING: Campus/Land Use Planning
Retained by the Chancellor of UHWO to join the planning/design team (PBR, Hara Associates & ARUP) in order to help expedite the new campus development, participated as campus planner during final planning and design, including environmental impact mitigation strategies. The outcome proved successful with LEED Gold certification and on-time occupancy.
