University of Hawai’i – West O’ahu
The University of Hawaiʻi - West Oʻahu (UHWO), is one of ten branches of the University of Hawaiʻi system. After 35 years without a permanent campus, approval was granted in 2010 to construct the new UHWO campus. Phase 1 of the campus included the library, student center, study and meeting places, and classroom buildings. These were completed in July 2012. Future phases and expansions to the campus include student housing and additional study and classroom facilities, along with a major transit center and other developments in the East Kapolei area.
Campus/Land Use Planning
Neu Campus Planning (David J. Neuman) was retained by the Chancellor of UHWO to join the planning/design team (PBR, Hara Associates & ARUP) in order to expedite the new campus development, and participate as the campus consulting architect/planner during final planning and design phase of development, including environmental impact mitigation strategies. The outcome was successful with LEED Gold certification, on-budget results and on-time occupancy.
