The University of Virginia Hospital Expansion, programmed and designed by Perkins + Will, in collaboration  with David J. Neuman, FAIA, during his tenure as Architect for the University of Virginia, has been awarded another significant design award by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA).  The new ED includes 12 secure behavioral health rooms, as well as a dedicated pediatric check-in and waiting area.  The ambulance bay has a 50,000-gallon cistern below to capture gray water from the overall building’s systems and green roof areas.

IIDA  jurors’ comments include the following:

“More than ever, we can appreciate the important of healthier and healthcare design.  We

found it was great for healthcare to be confident - and this design really captures that

It was bold yet simple use of color - enhances the way-finding.  A really important attribute”

Sustainability Goals:  LEED Platinum and Carbon Neutral (no credit purchases - 2025)
